Review: The Roundup: Punishment (2024)
'Monster Cop' Ma Seok-do investigates an illegal online gambling business led by a former STS Baek and an IT genius CEO Chang. Ma proposes an unexpected alliance to Jang and begins hunting down the criminals. I really like the The Roundup movies. They're fast, fun, and easy to follow. But I'm not as excited about the newest one, Punishment. What makes these movies work is their quick action and great fight scenes. Punishment has a lot of those things, but it doesn't feel as good. Why? The main problem is that the movie isn't very organized. It starts off with a good pace, but then slows down too much. This is made worse by moving between different places and messing up the group's teamwork. Also, the main character acting like a servant, kneeling and begging to keep a case, wasn't very impressive. And the jokes aren't very funny, sometimes feeling forced or poorly done. On the plus side, the movie is still somewhat entertaining. But it's not enough to make this version stand out. In short, not every movie in a series has to be amazing. The Roundup: Punishment isn't bad, but it's also not really great.
