When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they're forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. Why? This is terrible. A group of spoiled teenagers get together to celebrate the wedding of "Danica" (Madelyn Cline) and "Teddy" (Tyriq Withers), who is described as a beefcake daddy's boy. They have had a few drinks and decide to go down the road to watch fireworks. There's a car crash accident, and the father of the bride quickly covers everything up. One year later, the wedding plans are gone, like the dodo bird. He has taken to his boat and his bottle. She has realized that her former boyfriend is not very impressive, and since she's not the type to let things cool off, she has now gotten engaged to someone else. Now, everyone has come back together to give her gifts, but instead of cash, plastic surgery vouchers, or even a script for the director's cut, she gets just a card. The message on the card is so ominous that it forces them to wake up "Teddy" from his drunken stupor and revisit the terrible events that happened in their town of Southport in 1997. Fortunately, there are still some people who were involved in that crime spree, like "Ray" (Freddie Prinze Jr) and "Julie" (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who live in the area and may be able to help. They do help fairly quickly, but not fast enough to stop the rising number of deaths. Unlike others, these people are getting targeted. Who is behind all this, and why? I think I figured out who was doing what to whom pretty early on, and I don't think it would be hard for anyone else to do the same. After that, the movie becomes a really weak attempt at a slasher film with no real sense of fear or tension. Like many recent attempts to bring back this genre, the characters are not likeable and seem to deserve everything that happens to them. The situations are also just plain silly. Just ask poor "Milo" (Jonah Hauer-King), who wanders outside without even his shoes while his friends are being killed one by one. The only real danger comes from the over-the-top soundtrack, and the only screaming is the kind that says "direct-to-video. " Very disappointing, sorry.
