Review: Gladiator II (2024)
Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people. $250 million was spent, and the best we got was… rabid monkeys? Ridley Scott’s *Gladiator 2* feels like a parody of itself. Pascal’s character is completely unnecessary, a flat, one-dimensional figure who exists just to pad the runtime without adding anything memorable or meaningful. D. W. , despite his obvious talent, is given a poorly written role, forced to deliver clumsy dialogue as the story falls apart around him. As for the main story about Maximus Meridius’s son? It’s shallow and painfully predictable. The "legacy revenge" storyline is so obvious you could write the whole script after the first act. There are no surprises, no depth—just a repetitive, formulaic rehash of the original’s emotional moments.
